With travel slowly opening back up, many people who weren’t able to get away last winter are starting to plan warm seasonal holidays. And what better way to jumpstart your travels than making your hot vacation one that’s nourishing for mind, body and soul? Just like your favorite hot yoga studio at home, these gorgeous places provide the perfect spot to stretch, strengthen and warm your body on and off the mat.
Below are our top winter yoga getaways around the world.
Nosara, Costa Rica
Known as the yoga capital of Costa Rica, Nosara hosts the Nexus Yoga Institute teacher training school. For those looking to attend classes rather than teach, most hotels in the area offer yoga classes. For a luxury experience, check out Bodhi Tree and Costa Rica Yoga Spa, both offering a more spa-like experience. For those on a budget, look out for beach classes led by teachers in training who need to get their practice hours in!
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Beaches, mountains, yoga and tacos. What more do you need? A popular beach destination for both Mexicans and international visitors, Puerto Vallarta offers lots of sun-soaked yoga options. Visitors will find many yoga studios in town offering classes in both English and Spanish. For those looking for a full yoga retreat try Xinlani Eco Retreat or Beyond Yoga Retreat.
Savusavu, Fiji
On Fiji’s northern island, yogi’s who make the trek to Savusavu will avoid the crowds near the airport at Nadi. This gorgeous Polynesian island is the perfect backdrop for a yoga retreat with excellent opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and outdoor adventure. Matanavusi Eco Resort offers yoga classes and surfing on a white sand beach, or the Koro Sun Retreat has a luxurious rainforest spa. Those on a budget should check out Daku Resort.
Siem Reap, Cambodia
The closest city to Angkor Wat, the center of Siem Reap is busy with tourist bars and markets. Yet, travel just outside the city for a calm jungle oasis—the perfect spot for a yoga retreat. Hariharalaya yoga retreat offers a variety of traditional yoga vacations. For more luxury, try the Navutu yoga retreat where you can spend your time off the mat lounging by the pool. With warm weather year-round and no shortage of temples to explore, Siem Reap is an excellent winter yoga destination to add to the list.
Kerala, India
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning India, the birthplace of yoga. While there are many spots in India to choose from, we’re especially fond of Kerala. Home to a Sivananda center and the Amritapuri Ashram, you can also find the Agnihotra Yoga Retreat which offers both teacher training programs and retreats. For those interested in Ayurveda, there is an Ayurvedic hospital in the province along with several Ayurvedic training centers for those looking to become practitioners.
Koh Pha-Ngan, Thailand
If you’re looking for a quiet holiday, you should avoid Koh Pha-Ngan during its full moon parties. But when the moon is just a sliver in the sky, Koh Pha-Ngan is a gorgeous place for a yoga retreat. Warm weather, tasty healthy food and stunning scenery make this a perfect winter yoga getaway. The Orion Healing Centre offers a full wellness experience with yoga, reiki, spa treatments and vegan food. Samma Karuna is a good option for those on a budget, and they offer everything from yoga to dance. When not practicing yoga there’s plenty to explore on the island with sandy beaches, snorkeling and hiking.
